Lawrence Agbetsise

Lawrence Agbetsise is a multifaceted Ghanaian filmmaker and educator, a graduate of NAFTI and Erasmus Mundus Masters in film. He works as a producer, director, and editor across fiction, documentary, and experimental films. He was invited to prestigious Film workshop, pitching and residency programs like Durban Talents, Ouaga Film Lab, DOK.network Africa Residency and IDFA Academy. Lawrence has worked on films that have been selected and won awards at over 30 film festivals and major streaming platform like Netflix and Nowness.

Some film projects include KETEKE, THE BURIAL OF KOJO, STARGAZING and MFINFINI- InBetween (a transmedia project that spans across documentary, film, a comic book and a podcast). Lawrence works across a wide dynamic spectrum of storytelling, his recent publication “Synthetic Wavelength” explores the importance and challenges of leveraging artificial intelligence for African cinema aesthetics. He occasionally teaches film, transmedia storytelling and editing and has recently published a research paper titled Patches of Time which explores how audio-visual art, memory, and reconstructed histories intertwine, using photography and sound to reimagine the past through the lens of Sankofa.
